A Teacher Turned Mother

"My passion is teaching. My purpose is motherhood. The LEO School is where the two became one."

After 9 years teaching first grade in Boston and a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis four weeks before her due date, Nicole Cataldo built The LEO School — for her son Leo, and for every family that deserves a teacher who fights for their child.

Nicole Cataldo

Nicole Cataldo

Founder & Lead Educator

I taught first grade in a public school outside Boston, Massachusetts. Watching young children find their voice, build confidence, and grow into themselves was the most gratifying work I had ever known.

In 2024, four weeks before my due date, I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Becoming a mother and fighting for my life at the same time tested every limit I had. I unlocked a lioness in me who fought — and continues to fight — for the absolute best for my son. Always.

After that journey, I knew I had to build something that brought me real joy. The LEO School is where my love of teaching and my identity as a mother finally became one — built for the fierce lioness moms who want nothing less than the very best for their cubs.

How We Work Together

Getting Started is Simple.

Every family at The LEO School goes through the same thoughtful onboarding process — because understanding your child before we begin is how we make sure every session counts from day one.

01

Free Consultation

We start with a free 15-minute phone or video call. We discuss your child's learning history, your concerns, and the specific ways I can help. No pressure, no commitment — just a genuine conversation.

02

Assessment Appointment

Our first session is designed to build a positive relationship with your child while gathering important information about their learning and skillset. I use research-based curriculum assessments to understand exactly where your child is. No commitment required for this appointment.

03

Post-Assessment Report

After the assessment, I create a detailed Post-Assessment Report with specific, personalized goals for your child. We review it together and build a meaningful instruction plan — skills, practices, resources, and session structure — tailored entirely to your child.

04

Learning Sessions Begin

Sessions are customized, goal-driven, and built around your child's specific needs. You'll have access to a shared Google Folder with a detailed lesson outline for every single session — so you always know exactly what was taught, what was observed, and what's next.

Janae

Tutor & Math Specialist

Janae brings 12 years of public school teaching experience to The LEO School, with a background that spans fourth grade, fifth grade, and K–8 math intervention. Her ability to connect with students, earn their trust, and deliver expert instruction in the same breath is what makes her exceptional.

What sets Janae apart is her range. She has supported learners at every level — from the child who just needs a confidence boost to the student who needs targeted, systematic intervention. Our Name

What LEO Means

LEO is my son's name — my reason, my heart, and the whole reason any of this exists. It's also the zodiac symbol of the lion: courage, strength, and fierce protection. To me, being a lioness means nurturing with ferocity. That energy lives in every session and every child we welcome into our pride.

What Families Say

In Their Own Words.

"She is creative, patient and able to provide encouragement. I have noticed a significant improvement in my daughter's confidence and desire to read. Nicole uses a variety of tools to target skills in order to keep learning fun. Nicole provides great communication and feedback."

— Lindsey, parent of a first grader

"Her love and enthusiasm show every time she arrives to work with him. She is kind and patient, but also has that special way of encouraging him to do things for himself. She has helped my son be more independent in his learning. He always shouts 'Yes!' when she asks if he's ready to learn."

— Meg, parent of a first grader

"Nicole goes above and beyond — she personalizes her teaching based on his needs. The encouragement she gives is remarkable. We love her teaching style and would highly recommend her for tutoring. Thank you so much for all the help, you're a life saver!"

— Amy, parent of a third grader (student with IEP)

Understanding Our Model

What is a Small Group Enrichment Cohort?

A Small Group Enrichment Cohort is a small, consistent cohort of students who meet twice weekly for 45-minute live virtual sessions, guided by a certified teacher. Every pod is capped at six children — not as an afterthought, but as a deliberate commitment to ensuring every child is seen, heard, and progressing.

This is a semester-based cohort, which means your child will see the same friendly faces in every session. That built-in continuity is what makes cohort learning different: it creates structure, comfort, and genuine community — things that a drop-in class or solo tutoring session simply can't replicate.

Small Group Enrichment Cohorts

Our signature offering — and the heart of everything we do. The LEO School's Small Group Enrichment Cohorts are designed specifically to support your child with expert instruction in the subjects that matter most, in a small-group environment that feels nothing like a typical online class.

Flexibility Matters.

We understand every family has a unique schedule and set of priorities. That's why enrollment at The LEO School is entirely à la carte. Choose the subject or subjects that best fit your child's needs and your family's rhythm — one, two, or both.

Once you've chosen your subjects, select your cohort day group:

📅 Monday & Wednesday
📅 Tuesday & Thursday

Both groups follow the same curriculum. You simply choose the schedule that works for your family.
